Meet the Kuhns
Elbert & Cleidi
On location
with an Adventist missionary family
in Mongolia
Dear friends,
We would like to welcome you into our lives and share a bit about ourselves.
Elbert is a country boy and grew up in one of the oldest Adventist communities in Brazil, Rolante in Rio Grande do Sul. Cleidi grew up in Argentina till she was nine, and then moved to Novo Hamburgo in Rio Grande do Sul. Both of us are the fruit of Adventist education from elementary school through post graduate programs.
We met at UNASP, Adventist University of Sao Paulo, where Elbert was taking theology and Cleidi education. Both of us graduated in 1995 and in 1996 we started our ministerial life as church pastor.
We really enjoy ministering to the people, spending time with them, caring and nurturing them, and seeing them growing in Christ. We first ministered to a country church and after two years were transferred to a capital city church in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. What a challenge! Cleidi started work as a school counselor and school supervisor, which she did till we came to Mongolia.
We were really enjoying our job and we never thought, even in our wildest dreams, to be missionaries. But there is one thing we always did: pray to God to guide and lead us in His ways, not ours. We believe in Psalms 37:5, “Let the LORD lead you and trust him to help”(Contemporary English Version).
The way God called us to Mongolia gave us the assurance that He was leading us to a strange, far, and unknown world. In that time Elbert’s English was almost nonexistent and Cleidi didn’t speak a single word in English.
On November 17, 2003, after two days' delay from a snow storm we finally arrived in the land of Genghis Khan, a place that we now feel is our home. The coldest capital in the world!
Elbert is the ministerial, education, evangelism, and Global Mission director and Cleidi is family, children, and Shepherdess International director for Mongolia Mission Field.
